I'm no opera buff but was won over by 3 hours of this powerful production of Benjamin Britten's Peter Grimes. Bleak monochrome sets depicting the Suffolk coast accentuated the trauma of fisherman Grimes, persecuted by the mob. Last time I saw this was on the beach at Aldeburgh, it's inspiration via the poet George Crabbe

In Other Words: a searing yet tender depiction of the onset of Alzheimer's, years after a lovestruck young couple join paths - dancing, joking, chatting, caressing & ultimately talking to an (invisible) doctor.
Brilliantly acted by the playwright, Matthew Seager, & Lianne Harvey in an intimate setting that intensifies the emotions.
Translated into French as Oublie Moi, it won 4 Molière awards - deservedly.
Runs till Sept 30th @arcolatheatre before touring

I snapped this charming mosque caretaker in Tripoli on one of my trips there pre civil war - though never travelled as far east as the stricken region.
As the fatality count rises horribly let's hope aid arrives soon from the West

On the restaurant trail again, this time @perilladining where we hadn't been for some time. It's changed - sadly for the worse although a couple of dishes worked beautifully: the soupy shellfish petits pois guanciale served in a mega shell & the pork with luscious additions.
BUT the frilly pasta squashed into a tiny dish rather resembled a dogs dinner while ultra-slow, ultra nonchalant service didn't help.
There's a lot of competition out there so let's hope it was just a bad night 🤔
